Carel was entered by the factory in presumably a 550 Spyder, amongst a field of 21 participants. Most of them were Italians in this ten-hour race, that was run during the night on a street course in the Sicilian town of Messina. Carel retired, but only after he'd set the fastest lap of the race. The race was won by another Porsche works entry for Bino Heins and Paul Strahle.
